The new guidelines represent a significant evolution for mammography, breast ultrasound, and breast MRI while formally incorporating <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Contrast-Enhanced Mammography (CEM)<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> into the framework for the first time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The primary goal of this revision is to improve <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>consistency among radiologists<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, enhance communication between healthcare professionals, and increase the reproducibility of clinical findings. Several long-standing terms have been eliminated or updated to reduce ambiguity. For example, the term <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>\u201cmicrolobulated\u201d<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> was removed as a margin descriptor, while <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>\u201clobulated\u201d<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> has been introduced as a shape descriptor to support more consistent lesion characterization. In addition, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>calcification descriptors have been revised <\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">with greater emphasis on morphology and distribution, two essential factors for accurate risk stratification.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Another important development concerns <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>breast density assessment<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. While the traditional <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>four density categories<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> remain unchanged, the new manual encourages radiologists to focus more closely on the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>densest regions<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> of the breast rather than on overall fibroglandular density. This approach enables a more accurate evaluation of how breast density may obscure potentially malignant lesions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Breast ultrasound has also undergone significant updates. BI-RADS v2025 introduces the concept of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>\u201cnon-mass lesion,\u201d<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> a category designed to describe tissue abnormalities that do not exhibit the typical characteristics of a defined mass. Additionally, the new descriptor <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>\u201cechogenic rind\u201d<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> has been added for thick echogenic bands around a mass or non-mass that carry a high positive predictive value for malignancy and should be included in lesion size measurement. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Eventually, one of the most significant aspects of the revision is its stronger focus on <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>reporting standardization and its terminologies<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. The updated guidelines establish a more consistent structure across mammography, ultrasound, and MRI reports, facilitating comparison between examinations and improving long-term patient management. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The evolution of BI-RADS reflects a broader trend within breast imaging: the integration of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>technological innovation, diagnostic quality, and standardized clinical processes<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">.
